Offshore flights suspended after fatal crash

Some North Sea offshore helicopter flights have been suspended following a fatal crash off the coast of Norway.

One person was killed and five others taken to hospital after the Sikorsky S-92, operated by Bristow for the Norwegian firm Equinor, ditched into the sea near Bergen on Wednesday.

CHC Helicopters – which serves Equinor’s UK operations – suspended all its flights using S-92s until early on Thursday afternoon.

An investigation into the crash is being carried out by the Norwegian authorities.

A CHC spokesperson said: “Our thoughts go out to everyone involved, and we are doing all we can to assist.”

The company confirmed it had postponed all flights using S-92s until 13:00 on Thursday.

Bristow suspended its Thursday morning flights in Norway but said its UK services were operating normally.

A spokesperson for the UK government’s Air Accident Investigation Branch said it had offered assistance to the Norwegian Safety Investigation Authority.
