The Kristin field is now allowed to produce until 2033.
The production period for the Kristin field in the Norwegian Sea has been extended. This was revealed in an approval from the Norwegian Maritime Authority last week, as reported by Ocean24.
The field has already been in production for 20 years. It has now been given the green light to continue production until 2033. Operator Equinor has previously stated that the technical lifetime of the Kristin platform is until 2034, with the possibility of further extension until 2043.
Equinor shares ownership of Kristin with Petoro, Vår Energi, and Total. The operator recently announced that Kristin is among the fields that the company will not be electrifying.
The application for an extended lifetime was submitted last year. In connection with this, the Norwegian Maritime Authority conducted an inspection visit earlier this year to assess the working environment risks at the field. Deviations were found related to chemical health hazards, ergonomic conditions, and staffing challenges.
The Havtil report had a response deadline of Oct. 7. Three weeks later, the authority gave the green light for continued operation.
The Tyrihans and Maria fields are connected to Kristin. Last year, Kristin Sør also came into production.
