MODEC picks TMC for Brazil-bound FPSO

10 November 2025 – TMC Compressors (TMC) has been awarded a contract to supply a large capacity marine compressed air system to MODEC’s newbuild FPSO Gato do Mato.

TMC will provide the FPSO with a large-capacity marine compressed air system including compressors to supply control and service air on board the vessel. The company has not disclosed the value of the contract.

As the FPSO Gato do Mato will be located around 200 kilometres from shore, reliability and easy maintenance of equipment are key to keep operating costs down to a minimum.

“We have designed our compressors so that the offshore crew can easily maintain them without the need to bring on board an external service technician. An enabler of this approach is to use compressors that have been developed solely for marine and offshore use, which means that they have been specially designed for a marine operating environment – such as on board an FPSO that is located far from shore,” says Hans-Petter Tanum, TMC’s director of sales and business development.

“We have delivered similar marine compressed air systems to multiple MODEC FPSOs in the past. We know what MODEC expects, and they know what they get from us. It is a trust-based relationship that has evolved over several decades,” adds Hans-Petter Tanum.

Once completed and installed, the FPSO will be capable of producing 120,000 barrels of oil per day and will be moored at water depth of approximately 2,000 metres.

FPSO Gato do Mato – Orca Project is being carried out through a partnership among Shell (50%), as operator, Ecopetrol (30%), and TotalEnergies (20%), with PPSA participating as the Production Sharing Contract manager.

TMC is headquartered in Oslo, Norway.
