We are proud to announce a major milestone in the development of the Waitsia Gas Project — the achievement of first gas out from the newly commissioned Waitsia Gas Plant, located near Dongara in Western Australia.
This achievement marks a significant step forward in one of Australia’s largest onshore gas developments. The Waitsia Gas Project, a joint venture between Mitsui E&P Australia (MEPAU, as operator) and Beach Energy, is set to deliver a reliable supply of domestic gas to Western Australia and liquefied natural gas (LNG) to international markets — supporting energy security and meeting growing global demand.
MEPAU extends its sincere appreciation to both the Western Australian State Government and the Australian Federal Government for their continued support since the project’s inception.
The Waitsia Joint Venture plans to progress toward full operational capacity over the coming months and remain committed to transparent engagement with our stakeholders as the project advances.
Further details will be shared in due course.
Background
The Waitsia Gas Project is located ~16km southeast of Dongara and 350km north of Perth. The project unlocks significant value for the Mid West region and the State of Western Australia by providing local jobs, community benefits and opportunities for local business.
The project has been developed over a staged roll-out and includes the construction of the Waitsia Gas Plant, which will increase the output of the Waitsia Gas Field to 250 TJ/day with the combined output of the Xyris Production Facility.
The Waitsia Gas Field is a conventional reservoir situated on privately owned agricultural land. The Waitsia Gas Project is a joint venture with non-operator partner Beach Energy, providing significant
opportunity in the Mid-West Region.
