Aberdeen-based Asset Integrity Experts Viper Innovations Celebrates Recent Success in Nigeria

Aberdeen-based asset integrity experts Viper Innovations are celebrating the success of their collaboration with Nigerian engineering specialists Cranium Engineering Ltd, following a recent deployment of Viper’s award-winning V-LIFE technology on a major oil and gas Operator’s deepwater asset in Nigeria.

Viper Innovations is an award-winning high-tech DaaS model business, with UK headquarters in Aberdeen and Portishead and US headquarters in Houston, Texas. The company specialises in cutting-edge control system distribution solutions for the global subsea oil and gas industry, and have been in operation since 2012.

V-LIFE, Viper’s leading technology, is a preventative and active ‘healing’ solution for low Insulation Resistance (IR) in subsea power cables. The most common cause of subsea electrical failures is the ingress of water into the cable insulation, which decreases the IR and may produce short circuits or leakage to the earth. These faults often lead to loss of power and/or communications to subsea equipment and potentially halt production from subsea wells. Widely used by 30+ operators across six continents, V-LIFE is the leading alternative to subsea interventions.

Following the topside installation of V-LIFE into the subsea production control system, the Nigerian Operator reported seeing the benefits of the IR recovery technology, which responded quickly to increase the IR on the channel and mitigated a loss of production.

Viper signed a marketing and distribution agreement in 2022 with Cranium, a leading provider of engineering solutions for the African offshore industry, providing project management and specialist engineering services in a range of core areas. The arrangement has enabled the company to enhance its relationship with clients in Nigeria to bring the benefits of Viper’s cutting-edge insulation resistance monitoring and recovery technology to the Nigerian market. Viper has ambitious plans to grow the region as a key international market, in addition to expanding their offering to other parts of Africa. The success in Nigeria follows a number of other recent installations in Africa, including Egypt and Libya.
