Apache, Total hit second discovery off Suriname

Apache Corporation and Total announced last week a second “significant” light oil and gas condensate discovery offshore Suriname.

The Sapakara West-1 well, drilled by operator Apache, encountered 79 meters (259 feet) of high-quality hydrocarbons. Further testing will now be carried out to appraise the resources and productivity of the reservoir, on Block 58.

The 50-50 joint venture partners will drill an exploration well on the Kwaskwasi prospect next, with a fourth well to be planned back-to-back on the Keskesi prospect.

After the drilling of the fourth well, Total will become the operator of the block, which is adjacent to ExxonMobil’s Stabroek block in Guyana. The partners made their first discovery at the Maka Central-1 well.

Saparaka West-1 “further proves our geological model and confirms a large hydrocarbon system in two play types on Block 58,” said Apache CEO John Christmann.
