Australia’s Red Sky cleared to start up Killanoola oil

Australian oil and gas explorer Red Sky Energy has received approval from the South Australian state government to start production at its DW-1 well, part of the Killanoola oil project in the onshore Otway basin.

Red Sky signed an agreement with Australian refiner and fuel marketer Viva Energy in August for all crude produced from the oil field, subject to specifications. Killanoola was discovered in 1998 at a depth of 850m, with its oil a 34° API waxy crude. Previous flow tests of the well have recorded rates of up to 300 b/d, Red Sky said.

Red Sky’s best estimate oil recovery for the field is currently 2.8mn bl, which is a 40pc recovery factor.
