Clean tech company Exergy3 appoints industry-leading COO

Green energy storage company Exergy3 has announced the appointment of Eileen Jennings-Brown as its new Chief Operating Officer.

Exergy3, which span out from the University of Edinburgh last year, is decarbonising heat with its modular thermal energy storage systems that convert renewable electricity into heat, which is then stored at ultra-high temperatures of up to 1300°C.

With around half of greenhouse gas emissions worldwide coming from high temperature processes, used in industries from food and drink to district heating networks and combined heat and power plants, being able to store energy at high temperatures in an efficient, cost-effective way is a crucial element in the world’s journey to net zero.

Ms Jennings-Brown joins from Exscentia, a Fortune 50 AI Innovators company, where she was Chief Information Officer.  A respected industry leader with a background in IT engineering, she brings more than 25 years of experience in business and STEM, including as Head of Technology at the Wellcome Trust.

She takes on the role of COO following the closure of Exergy3’s first pre-seed round this autumn, led by Zero Carbon Capital. The company will deliver a demonstrator project at Annandale Distillery in Scotland, funded by the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero, in spring 2025.

Ms Jennings-Brown said: “I am proud to join Exergy3 and contribute to their mission of decarbonising industry through their groundbreaking energy storage technology.  Climate health is something I care deeply about, and stepping into the role of COO is an incredible opportunity to drive the scaling of operations, support the team in delivering our first-to-market solution, and ensure we remain at the forefront of innovation in the cleantech sector – a responsibility I am truly enthusiastic to be taking on.”

Markus Rondé, CEO of Exergy3, said: “We are hugely excited to have Eileen onboard. She brings a wealth of cross-sector expertise and a proven track record in transforming complex operations. Her leadership will ensure our operations are not only agile but also seamlessly integrated and highly efficient.

“Combating climate change demands the rapid and large-scale deployment of carbon-reducing technologies, which calls for a bold reimagining of how hardware is developed, deployed, and scaled.

“This novel approach to hardware development will position us at the forefront of the market, enabling the rapid and cost-effective decarbonisation of the economy.”
