Decom North Sea celebrates “trail blazing approach” with fifth annual awards

The winners of the fifth annual Decom North Sea Awards were announced at an evening ceremony on 17 May as a part of the organisation’s flagship conference, Decom Week.

This year the Awards, which were established by DNS to celebrate both individual and company excellence of its members in the decommissioning sector, focused upon excellence in collaboration, technical innovation and its rising stars. The “Decom North Sea Member” category once again recognised outstanding achievement from within the organisation’s 230-strong membership.

Sam Long, Decom North Sea interim CEO comments: “Firstly, we are delighted to be welcoming back a “live” Decom North Sea Awards ceremony. When the calibre of finalists is as impressive as we’ve seen this year, it is a joy to be able to engage face-to-face, providing a truly celebratory event for them, their colleagues and the wider sector.

“These awards come at a time when there are so many critical lessons to be learned and innovations to be exported from our sector - particularly as the energy transition gathers pace. We applaud our winners’ trail blazing approach to late life and decommissioning activity, and I have no doubt that the effects of their efforts will be far-reaching.”

Winners of this year’s Decom North Sea Awards are:

Excellence in Collaboration: CNR International (UK) Ltd for its collaboration with three owner groups to create a single Decommissioning Programme for the Banff and Kyle Fields.

Technical Innovation in Decommissioning: Allseas Engineering BV, for its revolutionary Jacket Lift System, which was successfully deployed for the single-lift removal of Ninian Northern jacket.

Rising Star in Decommissioning: Jointly awarded to Kirsty Lal of CNR International (UK) Ltd and Ross Provan of Petrofac. Kirsty impressed the judges with her impact across all CNRI’s decommissioning projects, including her leadership of the close out of Murchison Decommissioning Programme. In his new role as Global Decommissioning Manager, Ross has been instrumental in developing Petrofac’s global decommissioning activity and revitalising its approach, the results of which have culminated in a sector-defining project win.

Decom North Sea Member: Petrofac, for two significant international project awards won in the face of intense local competition and demonstrating the strength of Petrofac’s decommissioning service offering which transcends the entire decommissioning work breakdown structure.
