Drive to diversify on the agenda at AREG event

An industry event is set to explore new opportunities in the renewables sector as companies look to embrace the energy transition.

The Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group (AREG), in partnership with Subsea UK, is hosting a business breakfast at the Music Hall on Friday (May 31) which will showcase organisations who have diversified from oil and gas into renewables.

Chinese state-owned engineering services firm COES Caledonia (UK) Limited, which recently launched in Dundee, and marine geophysical-geotechnical specialists Pangeo Subsea will share stories about how they have successfully moved into new sectors.

Delegates will be given an update on the city’s new state-of-the-art P&J Live event complex. Richard Sweetnam, chief officer of city growth at Aberdeen City Council will provide an insight into this high-profile project and its importance to the city region.

The audience will also hear from Paul O’Brien of Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) who will discuss the new DeepWind Offshore Wind cluster which will cover the Highlands and Islands area as well as Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire as part of the UK’s £250m Offshore Wind Sector Deal.

Jean Morrison, chair of AREG said: “This is a fantastic line-up of speakers, from those sharing success stories of successful diversification to first-hand updates on major projects including TECA and the DeepWind Offshore Wind Cluster.

“The energy transition is going to have significant importance for the region and we want our members to be in a leading position when new opportunities become available. I would encourage those with an interest in energy and diversification to come along and get involved.”

The event takes from 7.30-9.30am on Friday (May 31) at the Music Hall in Aberdeen. Attendance is free for AREG members and £25 for non-members.
