Energean progressing Katlan/Tanin gas project offshore Israel
Energean has approval from Israel’s government for its Phase 1 development of the Katlan/Tanin area offshore Israel.
Phase 1 includes the Athena, Zeus, Hera and Apollo gas accumulations. In the next few weeks, the company expects to confirm the award of a 30-year production license, and it will take FID on the project after finalizing terms.
Earlier this month, Energean produced first gas from the Karish North subsea tieback to the FPSO Energean Power offshore Israel.
This summer operator Eni should deliver first gas from the Cassiopea Field development offshore Sicily, Italy (Energean 40%). Drilling started last November with the production well completed in January, and remaining offshore and onshore work is progressing.
Earlier this month, the administrative court of Lazio (Rome) ruled in favor of a claim submitted by the company and other operators, annulling the PITESAI plan and its applicable acts15. The decision could open potential new activities on Italian exploration acreage or in existing leases.
Offshore western Greece, Energean’s Prinos carbon storage project has been declared a project of common interest by the European Commission. The company has signed non-binding memoranda of understandings covering about 5 Mm metric tons/year of storage and has commitments of grants totaling EUR150 million.
It is now looking to convert the surrounding exploration license to a storage permit.
Finally, Energean is close to completing a farm-in as operator to the 18-Bcm Anchois gas development offshore Morocco. The company and Chariot plan to drill an appraisal well on the field this summer.
