EPIT Group Shortlisted for HazardEx Award for Hydrogen Safety Training Innovation

EPIT Group has been shortlisted for a HazardEx Award in Category 3: Net Zero, Environment & Sustainability, recognising their Hydrogen Safety & Explosion Protection Awareness training course and contribution to the safe adoption of hydrogen in hazardous environments.

The HazardEx Awards celebrate technical excellence and innovation that support safety, compliance and the transition to lower-carbon energy systems. EPIT’s shortlisting reflects the growing recognition that achieving net zero depends not only on new technologies, but on workforce competence and strong safety culture.

EPIT’s training course provides engineers, safety professionals and operational staff with a structured, standards-based understanding of hydrogen hazards and effective risk control measures. Rather than promoting hydrogen as inherently “green,” the course focuses on safe deployment in line with established good practice.

The programme is aligned with recognised international standards, including the IEC 60079 and ISO/IEC 80079 series, helping organisations integrate hydrogen systems into existing explosion protection strategies. It covers hydrogen properties, hazardous area classification, ignition source control, equipment selection, operational considerations, and implications for inspection, maintenance and competence.

Martin Constable, Operations Director at EPIT Group, said:

“Hydrogen has huge potential, but sustainable growth depends on people understanding the real safety challenges it presents. This course is about equipping industry with the knowledge needed to design, operate and maintain hydrogen systems safely and in accordance with recognised standards.”

With a long-standing reputation in hazardous area training across multiple sectors, EPIT has applied proven explosion protection principles to the specific demands of hydrogen applications. The shortlisting highlights the role of practical, engineering-led training in supporting the energy transition.

Winners of the HazardEx Awards will be announced in February 2026.
