Equinor Strikes Black Gold: New Oil and Gas Discovery in North Sea

Equinor, along with Petoro and OMV Norge, has discovered significant oil and gas reserves in the Granat prospect of the North Sea, with potential yields up to 3.8 million barrels. The companies are evaluating integration with existing Gullfaks infrastructure to optimize extraction and production processes.

In a significant development for Norway’s energy sector, Equinor announced the discovery of oil and gas reserves in the Granat prospect of the North Sea, located about 190 kilometers northwest of Bergen.

The Norwegian offshore directorate estimates the reserves to contain between 0.2 million and 0.6 million standard cubic meters of recoverable oil equivalent, translating to approximately 1.3-3.8 million barrels of oil.

Equinor holds a 51% stake as the operator of the permit, while partners Petoro and OMV Norge own 30% and 19%, respectively. The consortium is exploring the possibility of connecting these new reserves to the Gullfaks area infrastructure to enhance production efficiencies.
