Fraser Well Management undertakes Curlew Well Operatorship

Well engineering and project management specialist, Fraser Well Management (FWM) is preparing to drill Corallian Energy’s Curlew-A appraisal well.

Offshore operations are commencing with a site survey which will be undertaken by Gardline using the Ocean Endeavour. The Curlew-A discovery is located in the UK Central North Sea, 210km east of Aberdeen and will be the fourth that FWM delivers in its capacity as well operator.

The Aberdeen-based well operations team is preparing drilling plans for the well, which is anticipated to spud in H1 2020, the licence having been awarded to Corallian Energy in October 2018. In early 2019, FWM successfully delivered the Wick and Colter wells for Corallian Energy, in accordance with plans and with no reportable environmental incidents.

Meanwhile, the FWM team in Great Yarmouth is focussed on delivering the Harvey appraisal well for Independent Oil and Gas (IOG) which is anticipated to spud in early August 2019. This well is the third appointment for FWM as well operator and represents an important project for IOG and the Southern North Sea.

As well operator, FWM is providing an end-to-end service for the design of the well, selection and procurement of the drilling rig and drilling services, as well as offshore execution and project close-out. In accordance with the legal requirements, special focus is given to incident preparedness, spill response and pollution prevention.

Dave Gaudoin, Managing Director of Corallian Energy, commented: “FWM, together with our environmental management team Orbis Energy, delivered an outstanding service to Corallian Energy in the planning and execution of the Colter well.

“Given the highly sensitive nature of the area, external stakeholder interest was high. FWM worked with the parties to ensure regulatory compliance and that all risks to the environment were minimised. The provision of the well operator and well management services by FWM has allowed us to focus on our core skills of identifying and securing new drilling opportunities and the funds to drill them. Based on review of their operational capabilities through the drilling of the Colter well we are confident that the environment, local area and Corallian’s interests were carefully managed at all times.”

Nick Ford, Managing Director of FWM added: “With the end-to-end Well Operator service we are able to assist a new generation of independent oil and gas companies to deliver wells in a safe, cost-efficient basis, on time and within budget, whilst taking care of the environment.”

“It’s our mission to assist clients, such as Corallian Energy, in delivering safe, reliable and affordable energy. I would like to thank Corallian for the opportunity they have given us to grow from well management and well engineering into well operatorship.”
