Global Resources Network drills to the core of offshore recruitment

Global Resources Network drills to the core of offshore recruitment

Global Resources Network, specialist recruitment business to the offshore drilling sector, has undergone a rebrand and company repositioning to strengthen its position as a leading provider of core drill and support crew for the global oil & gas industry.

Formerly Global Resource Management Ltd, part of the Global Energy Group, Global Resources Network has relaunched and operates as an independent entity with its own brand, under the new ownership of Envoy & Partners. Along with the relaunch comes a move to larger, newly-refurbished office premises and increased staffing levels to support projected future growth.

Iona Currie, General Operations Manager, said the company is better equipped than ever to respond to increased activity in the industry.

“We have a new name and new offices, but we still have the same highly-experienced, focussed team of specialist recruiters who have years of expertise in offshore drilling recruitment. Adding two new members to our established team gives us additional resource to support our drilling sector clients who are now facing the challenges of a growing skills shortage.

“Our strength and the benefit we bring to clients comes from our specialist knowledge of the sector and this transition means we are even better placed to focus on our drilling roots. That gives us greater capacity to continue to provide a consistently high and reliable level of service to our clients and candidates.

“The rebrand comes at a time when the industry is once again going through change. There is new positivity and rapidly increasing activity and as a result the skills shortage is becoming more crucial,” she said. “By repositioning now, we are proactively ramping up and consolidating the services we provide to our clients to meet their crewing requirements.”

The company specialises in the provision of core offshore drill crew as well as maintenance, support and marine staff associated with drilling operations offshore or in dock.  The majority of placements are in the North Sea on an ad-hoc and temporary to permanent basis, but Global Resources’ highly experienced network of in-country partners and worldwide contacts gives it global reach. Clients include the majority of the main drilling contractors in the UKCS and abroad.

Global Resources has an existing highly-experienced workforce pool on its books, but it continues to actively recruit for additional candidates across all disciplines. Recognising the need for their customers to have competent, experienced crews they recently created a Resourcer role within the team to focus solely on sourcing candidates outwith the current pool.

Shortages exist across all skills sets but Global Resources Network clients are currently experiencing a particular scarcity of experienced roustabouts along with a growing requirement for maintenance personnel. The industry upturn also means there are opportunities for work in most roles.

Global Resources places an average of 80-plus offshore personnel every day. The greatest demand is for experienced workers, but the skills shortage has created more job opportunities for inexperienced or new entrants to the industry. Companies are increasingly receptive to the idea of reassessing their hiring criteria and in the past three months, Global Resources has placed 28 “green hands” across the North Sea.

Iona said, “Our objective is to always recruit the best people available to meet client needs and to grow our pool personnel.  We also recognise the need to encourage and support the next generation of workers to meet growing demands in the drilling workforce.  We’re particularly excited to see the new opportunities for green hands and we really enjoy being part of that.

“Since the downturn we are seeing experienced candidates struggling to get back into the industry, so we work with a network of training providers to ensure we can help support anyone returning to industry regain their required certifications.  In addition to this, as part of our service offering, we work directly with a sister company, Training and Competence Solutions (TCS), to offer a variety of training and competence solutions to our customers covering a range of offshore requirements.”

The Global Resources Network office is located at In Spec House, Dyce, Aberdeen.
