Global service provider Fortress Energy appoints new Engineering Manager

UK based global service provider Fortress Energy has appointed a new Engineering Manager to manage a growing client base.

Senior industry specialist Steve Flanigan has taken on the role bringing deep industry knowledge from working with a range of well-established international, multi-discipline companies in a career spanning 32 years to date.

Steve has significant experience in all aspects of mechanical machining and bolting works including project management, supervision, Health & Safety, Planning & Control, QA and completions.

Fortress Energy specialises in pipeline, process and engineering services for the energy, marine, utilities and power generation sectors.

The firm said Mr Flanigan will lead it through a “significant period of growth” and will also be largely responsible for developing young talent in the fields of on-site engineering, machining, fabrication and bolting.

Mr Flanigan’s high-level appointment also comes at a time of expansion for Fortress with new offices opening recently in the Morton Park Way Business Park in Darlington to accommodate a growing team in the north.

The company already has a solid, international industry reputation in the onsite machining and bolting market, and the move to appoint a manager of Mr Flanigan’s calibre demonstrates the company’s commitment to developing innovative techniques and solutions for both UK and overseas markets whilst maintaining the highest operational and safety standards.

Commenting on his new role, Steve said, “I am delighted to be given the chance to champion the growth plans at such an exciting time for Fortress Energy.

“I have had the pleasure of working in partnership with the dedicated team of professionals at Fortress Energy in my previous roles in the energy sector and to be joining the firm at this point in my career is very timely as I strive to pass on my knowledge and expertise.

“To acquire the skillset needed for this type of market sector requires a significant amount of on-the-job training and I am looking forward to passing on all that I have learnt to the talented young professionals coming up through the ranks across the business.”

Commenting on Steve’s appointment, Fortress Energy Operations Manager, Gary Darch, said: “By appointing a long-standing industry professional and all-round team player such as Steve, we are widening our knowledge, increasing experience, and strengthening the team.

“With his in-depth insight of the fabrication and machining industry, we look forward to working with him to continue growing the business.”

The Darlington expansion comes just a year after Fortress announced the opening of a 13,500 sq.ft welding and fabrication site at its Cheshire based headquarters at Ellesmere Port. The move formed part of the firm’s global growth journey to deliver pressure part welding and fabrication site services throughout the UK and beyond.

The Fortress Energy fabrication division joined with the already established and vibrant onsite machining team, delivering an integrated approach between the company’s machining and pressure parts division leading to an even more streamlined, responsive service.

“Fortress Energy has continued to build a strong client base across the UK during a very challenging period for the industry,” continued Gary. “We have settled well into our facility in Ellesmere Port and our onsite capabilities in fabrication allows us to offer a broader service to clients.

“Having now recently opened a new office base in Darlington is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team to diversify our product range and create new partnerships across the UK.”
