The company’s board of directors is set to begin the search for his successor, with the transition is expected to take place in 2026.
bp has announced that its Chair, Helge Lund, will step down from his role, prompting the board of directors to begin the search for his successor.
The company confirmed that the transition is expected to take place in 2026, with the process being led by Dame Amanda Blanc, the company’s Senior Independent Director, with the support of the full board.
According to bp, the incoming Chair will first join the board and work alongside Lund to ensure a smooth transition before formally assuming the position. Lund will step down from the board at that time.
“The time is right to begin the search for my successor and ensure an orderly and seamless handover. With our strategy now firmly reset, the focus is on delivering results, improving performance, and growing shareholder value. The board and I remain committed to supporting Murray and his leadership team as they execute on bp’s strategic and financial goals,” said Lund.
“We are conducting a thorough search to identify Chair candidates with the experience and credibility to guide the board and support the ongoing execution of our reset strategy,” added Blanc.
bp noted that the board remains focused on overseeing the management team’s delivery of the company’s strategic priorities, both during the transition and under the future Chair.
