International Business Event Successfully Explores Links

Pooling international knowledge from two key energy hubs was the theme of a business event which took place in Aberdeen for the third time on Monday (February 4th).

The third Aberdeen-Perth, WA Gateway – in association with Qantas and Pinsent Masons – took place at Macdonald Norwood Hall, Aberdeen and aimed to help showcase the wealth of opportunities which exist in both locations. The session will also act as a springboard to further strengthen the links between the locations as well as facilitating additional opportunities between participating businesses and delegates.

The lunchtime gathering once again provided a platform for international networking, knowledge sharing and discussion. The event was led by chairman Pinsent Masons’ Global Head of Oil & Gas Bob Ruddiman and keynote speaker The Government of Western Australia’s Agent General, Mike Deeks CSC.

They were joined by live speakers and remote contributors representing a range of organisations including Aberdeen City Council, City of Perth, Qantas Airways Ltd, activpayroll Ltd, Global Scot Ian Grant, Quensh, Subsea Technology & Rentals and ODM Visas.

Commenting on the 2019 Aberdeen-Perth WA Gateway, Mike Deeks said: “We are grateful for the support of Granite PR in organising this, our third, Aberdeen Perth Gateway event.

“Each year, we discover experiences and knowledge that we can share with each other to the benefit of both localities. This year, we were here to learn about the logistics, service and support business for the offshore oil and gas industry.”

“As Australia takes over the mantle from Qatar as the world’s largest exporter of LNG, it is vital that Western Australia can offer the complete suite of services essential for the success of this industry sector. What better place to learn than here in Aberdeen?”

“We also share the need to address the issue of decommissioning or repurposing of unused infrastructure. This is a worldwide challenge for the offshore resource sector and the Gateway event is a great opportunity to pool our collective knowledge and share lessons learned.”

He added: “There are already many strong links between us and I am very confident that we can continue to build on the success to date for the benefit of industry in both Western Australia and Aberdeen.”

Chairman Bob Ruddiman said: “Pinsent Masons was delighted to support the connections between Aberdeen and Perth, two of the leading global energy centres.

“The Gateway event highlighted the opportunities for businesses to expand into new markets with significant growth opportunities across the supply chain. The oil and gas industry has a critical role to play in meeting global energy demand for many years to come and increased connectivity will be one of the key factors in ensuring best practice is available as the industry repositions itself in an Energy Transition context.”

Hosted by Granite PR and managed by Business Plus Scotland, the Aberdeen-Perth, WA Gateway built on the success of the now well-established Gateway series by offering an international bridge between two leading energy hubs.

The Aberdeen-Perth, WA Gateway was supported by Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeenshire Council, activpayroll Ltd, City of Perth, Invest Aberdeen, Munro’s Travel Ltd, ODM Visas, Pinsent Masons, Qantas Airways Ltd, Quensh, Scottish Development International, Subsea Technology & Rentals, Think Perth, Western Australian Government.
