Leading Tech Expert Joins Tech Start-up

The start-up company behind a new digital platform that revolutionises how projects are resourced by championing remote team collaboration, has appointed a leading tech expert.

Nigel Filer has joined Xergy, which is soon to launch V1.0 of Proteus, a cloud-based work management system that enables companies to drive business efficiencies through facilitating remote working.

Proteus, which comes at a time when companies across multiple industries are looking for support in transforming to a new way of working, changes the way in which projects are resourced. The digital platform sets out to improve utilisation rates, reduce fixed overheads and match the best suited freelance talent to these projects as and when needed.

Joining as chief operating officer (COO) to support the launch and roll-out of Proteus, Mr Filer is an experienced tech leader with over 25 years’ experience in internet services, application development, infrastructure management and enterprise software across a range of market sectors.

Mr Filer, who has also invested in the company, will advise Xergy on sales, marketing and product development. Xergy recently announced it has closed its second round of fund-raising, bringing the total investment in Proteus to £2.8million.

With a degree in economics and accountancy, Mr Filer has forged an impressive career in tech, where he has helped build successful businesses. As commercial director of Netforce, he implemented systems and processes that improved revenue/cost ratios prior to its acquisition by Norweb Telecom. He spent several years leading a £350m+ business for Computacenter, delivering year on year growth before running the UK business for MuleSoft which was floated in 2017 before being acquired by Salesforce in 2018. Most recently he was CEO of a subscription software company.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Filer said: “Proteus is a disruptive tech product which has the potential of being category defining in a number of market sectors. It has been designed to address specific resource challenges in the energy industry but my role, in addition to supporting the initial sales, marketing and development, will be to explore opportunities in other verticals.

“The team behind Proteus has already secured major investment, delivered a beta version of the product which is being test driven by several clients and has a clear vision already in place for the next steps.

Passionate about start-ups and tech platforms, I’m looking forward to bringing my knowledge and experience to support the team in delivering high-growth.”

Founder and Chief Executive of Xergy, Colin Manson, said: “As well as investment, Nigel has brought a sharpened focus to our marketing and product development. His track-record in creating high-performance teams and delivering growth is second to none, particularly in the tech space.

“Nigel fully understands how Proteus facilitates remote working on even the most complex projects and how it will create a genuine freelance culture to flourish in industries which have typically shied away from this approach. Proteus can help these industries transform themselves to suit the needs of today’s and tomorrow’s workforce. Today’s bright minds are looking for greater flexibility with the ability to work when they want and where they want and Proetus enables them to do that, at the same time ensuring that industries can tap into this talent pool.”
