Lukoil completes drilling of first caspian sea production well

Russian energy company Lukoil has completed drilling of the first Caspian Sea production well from the wellhead platform.Located at the Yury Korchagin field, the well was drilled in the second field development stage implemented to involve the Eastern part of the field into production. The depth of the single-bore well is 5,217m and the reach is 4,235m, with an initial flow rate of producing approximately 500t of crude oil per day. The horizontal completion of the well was drilled from a jack-up rig.In addition, the company completed a 1,408m sidetrack in the single-bore Caspian Sea production well #14 under an additional drilling programme within the first field development stage.”The depth of the single-bore well is 5,217m and the reach is 4,235m, with an initial flow rate of producing approximately 500t of crude oil per day.”This allows the company to produce crude oil from the original bore and the sidetrack separately, which in turn increases the hydrocarbon recovery factor. The additional drilling programme at the first development stage along with the implementation of the Yury Korchagin field’s second development stage accommodates production increase and extension of the production plateau at the field. The Yury Korchagin field is the first discovery for the company in the North Caspian oil and gas province in 2000.Lukoil commenced commercial production at the field in 2010 and the development was carried out in two stages. All offshore facilities for the field development were built in the Astrakhan Region. The first stage witnessed the completion of a fixed offshore ice-resistant platform with a drilling facility, a living quarter platform, and an offshore transshipment facility. The second stage involves a wellhead platform along with a multi-phase intra-field pipeline and power cable connections with the fixed offshore ice-resistant platform of the first stage.
