McDermott wins contracts from SSB and SEP for offshore projects

McDermott International has won contracts from Sarawak Shell Berhad (SSB) and Sapura Exploration and Production (SEP) for offshore projects in Malaysia.

As part of the contracts, McDermott will be responsible for the transportation and installation of jackets, topsides and pipelines for the Gorek, Larak and Bakong gas fields.

McDermott will also fabricate risers and spools for SSB and SEP.

The two contracts for the offshore projects are expected to be worth between $1m and $50m.

McDermott International Asia Pacific senior vice-president Ian Prescott said: “These two contracts give McDermott the opportunity to strengthen our long-standing relationship with Sarawak Shell Berhad and develop a new relationship with Sapura Exploration and Production.

“They also provide an excellent opportunity for McDermott to execute offshore projects in Malaysia using many of the company’s assets, from our highly skilled and talented workforce to our marine assets and our global fabrication expertise.”

The Malaysian-registered Derrick Barge 30 installation vessel will be used for both contracts.

The local content requirement will be met by the project management team, which will be based in Kuala Lumpur.

McDermott will carry out works related to the fabrication of the risers and spools at its global execution centre in Batam, Indonesia.

The offshore campaign is expected to start in the second quarter of this year.

Prescott added: “Our Kuala Lumpur office is one of the company’s centres of excellence supporting our global projects. This gives our local employees excellent development and growth opportunities.”
