ModuSpec lands two geothermal projects in Europe
ModuSpec, a Vysus Group company, has secured two contracts to deliver rig inspection services for geothermal projects within Continental Europe.
The organisation will support ENNA Geo ahead of the operator’s planned geothermal drilling operations in 2024, providing inspection and acceptance of the Emsco E-605 land rig onshore Croatia. The scope will include an audit of the rig contractor’s management systems including health, safety, environmental and crew competency, as well as a dropped objects inspection.
ModuSpec will also provide rig-specific technical assurance for Energie Beheer Nederland (EBN) ahead of its planned ‘Dutch Seismic Campaign for Geothermal Energy’ (Seismische Campagne Aardwarmte Nederland) or ‘SCAN’ program.
Seven to 10 research wells will be drilled using the E200 land rig to better appraise the subsurface potential of geothermal energy, and to thereby accelerate the future development of geothermal projects across the Netherlands.
Liam Pirie, Business Development Manager for ModuSpec, said: “There’s an estimated 100-130 new geothermal wells to be drilled in Europe through to 2026, so it’s great for ModuSpec to be involved in some of these flagship projects that will support the energy transition and directly contribute to local communities as well.”
Nikola Legčević from ENNA Geo commented: “We selected ModuSpec given that they are a renowned provider of rig inspection services and look forward to a successful intake of the rig prior to commencing drilling operations in 2024. ENNA will be using the rig to drill one firm and one optional well onshore Croatia in the first phase of the drilling campaign with an additional two to four wells planned in the second phase of the drilling campaign. The ultimate goal is to gain access to a geothermal reservoir, which will be used to produce 20 MW of electric power. ”
