New event to explore guyana opportunities

A new business event is set to shine a light on opportunities in the nascent energy industry in Guyana later this year.

As part of its growing Gateway series, Aberdeen-based Granite PR has teamed up with ABIS Energy to create the Aberdeen-Guyana Gateway and it will take place in the North East for the first time in November. During a three-day programme for visiting representatives of Guyanese government, industry and commerce in late November, one highlight will be the traditional Gateway lunchtime gathering featuring an impressive line-up to speakers from both locations.

The inaugural Aberdeen-Guyana Gateway has been supported by Invest Aberdeen and The Lord Provost of Aberdeen Barney Crockett said: “It is essential that we seize every opportunity to promote Aberdeen as a global centre of excellence, here and abroad.

“Aberdeen is a city with a rich heritage and bright future, and by meeting with key organisations and individuals from Guyana we can promote the expertise of local businesses, particularly in the energy sector, and be a gateway to new business, educational and cultural opportunities for companies here and in Guyana.”

Brett Jackson, founder and MD of Granite PR and creator of the Gateway series said: “Our Gateways have a solid track record in exploring established energy hubs and this new concept opens up the format to the potential of new markets and educational discovery journeys.

“Against a backdrop of an ever-increasing percentage of Scottish energy firms focusing on overseas markets, we will again blend inbound trade mission, facilitation, networking, PR and events to share the North East’s technical knowledge with a global stage.”

Established in 2014, Aberdeen-headquartered ABIS Energy’s activities extend to; business to business solutions, investors and investment strategies, industry and academic partnerships, petroleum economics and projects delivery. It works with an international roster of blue-chip industry clients, national and regional government agencies, delivering sustainable value to the community at large and investors alike.

Francis Kiernan of ABIS Energy added: “Guyana is positioned at the dawn of its oil industry and is currently looking abroad for knowledge and expertise to move forward. With the country’s historic links to the Commonwealth coupled with the North East’s unrivalled reputation for industry excellence, it is fitting that this part of the world is where they turn to for expertise.

“This creates exciting opportunities for many and the new Aberdeen-Guyana Gateway will provide a valuable way to engage in conversations about delivering the Aberdeen supply chain into the capital city Georgetown, starting from a position of education and discovery.”
