UK-based Ventus Energy, a leading supplier of high voltage services, has been awarded a contract with SSE Renewables to provide maintenance works for Seagreen Wind Farm’s transmission assets.
Throughout the duration of the contract, its team will operate across primary and secondary equipment at the wind farm’s offshore and onshore substations, ensuring they continue to perform at a high standard and minimise transmission downtime.
The contract marks the third project Ventus has embarked on with SSE Renewables, having supported the operator’s Beatrice and Greater Gabbard wind farms since 2021.
In addition to substation asset maintenance, SSE Renewables has included a framework agreement with Ventus to provide senior authorised persons (SAPs) for 66kV operations.
Rauri Maguire, director of commercial operations at Ventus Energy said: “This project is another key achievement for us as we’re now managing key UK transmission infrastructure for a number of leading offshore wind developers, further aiding our ambition of being a world-leading supplier of high voltage services within this industry.
“To have secured a new contract with SSE Renewables in addition to its two other wind farms emphasises the skill behind our service offering. All Ventus Energy personnel involved in the Seagreen project, including our engineers, technicians and SAPs, are authorised under SSE Renewables Safe System of Work, and this combined with our expertise, reinforces our status and reputation as a company that can be trusted to deliver.”
Mike Fivey, head of asset integrity at SSE Renewables said: “Ventus is a reputable and dependable provider of high voltage services and we value its provision of experienced personnel in both routine and short-notice capacity.
“Its support has been pivotal to SSE Renewables early-stage operations of Seagreen’s high voltage systems across turbine and transmission level, and we look forward to continuing to work with them on other offshore sites.”
Furthermore, Ventus Energy’s sister company RTS Wind will also support the contract delivery with mechanical-based maintenance, providing a true turnkey offering. This includes visual inspections of the offshore substation platform (OSP) and jacket structure, as well as statutory inspections of access ladders, fall arrest systems and lifting equipment.
Seagreen is Scotland’s largest offshore wind farm and is a joint venture between Total Energies and SSE Renewables. Located around 27 km off the coast of Angus in the North Sea, the site has 114 turbines with permission for up to 150. In October 2023, Seagreen became fully operational.
Ventus Energy specialises in a range of high voltage services including operations and maintenance, electrical safety management and coordination, high and extra high voltage jointing and is a preferred supplier for onshore and subsea cable repair. With a proven track record in the energy sector, the organisation is trusted for its breadth of skills and competencies for both the offshore and onshore markets.
