After an intensive nine months of creating, setting up and running a small business, nine YEG teams from a total of seven schools (see below) will be taking part in the final which is being held at the Leonardo Hotel at Aberdeen Airport on Tuesday 21st March.

The companies are set up and run by school pupils, and will be judged on a number of criteria including its financial management, business acumen, sustainability and marketing flair.   The secondary Schools competing this year  are:  Albyn School, Hazlehead Academy, Mackie Academy, Mearns Academy, Robert Gordon’s College, St Machar Academy and Westhill Academy.

The teams will be showcasing their products before facing questions from a judging panel including Professor Elizabeth Gammie, Dean of the Aberdeen Business School and Shona Douglas, Lecturer, both from Robert Gordon University and Adam Smith, Director of Resources and Senior Lecturer – Entrepreneurship at the University of Aberdeen Business School.

In addition one pupil will be presented with the inaugural Jordan Kearney Award following nominations from peers, business advisors and teachers to recognise a student who has shown extraordinary commitment to the success of their Young Enterprise team, been a role model and demonstrated confidence and respect for others.

The award is in memory of the late Jordan Kearney who as a former YEG participant with Peterhead Academy made a huge impact to both his own community, his YEG team and the overall competition in 2017 – he sadly passed away in December of last year aged 22.

Young Enterprise Scotland, which is a registered charity, runs the Company Programme across Scotland.  The programme provides business experience for S5 and S6 pupils where participants run their own company throughout this year long entrepreneurial experience.
