Peterson awarded accreditation for occupational health and safety management

Leading international energy logistics company, Peterson, has achieved the international standard ISO 45001:2018 accreditation for its occupational health and safety management system across all of its global sites.

ISO 45001 is the new international standard for occupational health and safety (OHS) management systems, replacing the old British Standard OHSAS 18001:2007. The new standard provides a framework to improve employee safety, reduce workplace risks and create better, safer workingconditions and focuses on a proactive approach to improving OHS performance.

This certification underlines Peterson’s commitment as a global leader in health and safety, whilst demonstrating compliance to all applicable legislation. Peterson initially achieved the standard in The Netherlands in May 2018 and has now achieved the multi-site standard meaning their global operations across all sites are now ISO 45001 approved, including the UK, Trinidad and Tobago and Malta.

The new safety standard helps organisations manage their risks and improve performance to make people safer and healthier.Until the publication of ISO 45001 in March 2018, most organisations were using national standards, which were often significantly different from each other. This new international standard demonstrates consistency across the various markets and helps with cross-border operations. This means the certification will help organisations to demonstrate that they have a robust health and safetymanagement system in place, boosting their reputation to customers and employees alike.

The certificate promotes workers to take an active role in health and safety, helping to reduce lost time due to accidents or ill health – creating a better working environment for people and reducing costs and downtime in the process.

Keith Dawson,Director of HSEQ, Peterson, commented:“Keeping our people safe remains our number one priority andwe are absolutely delighted to be one of the first companies to achieve this prestigious standard. We are proud that our personal responsibility core value enables all our people to feel empowered to challenge unsafe behaviours and stop any jobs they deem to be unsafe.

“The ISO 45001 accreditation supports our commitment to establishing a robust framework and reporting system, strengthening Peterson’s position and our global goal to be the preferred supplier in the energy logistics sector, as well as our commitment to improve safety and efficiency wherever we work.”

Alongside this latest accreditation,Peterson continues to strive towards better safety procedures through their innovative use of smart technology which has won the company several industry safety awards. Peterson uses data to identify patterns where safety may be compromised, enabling safety to be managed both predictably and proactively.
