Petrobras books three Constellation rigs

Petrobras books three Constellation rigs

Brazil’s Constellation Oil Services has been awarded new contracts for three of its rigs by Petrobras in Brazil.

The contracts were awarded to Amaralina Star, Gold Star, and Lone Star rigs, Constellation revealed in a recent update.

The Brazilian company said that these new contracts reinforce its long-term relationship with Petrobras and guarantee operational continuity for the three rigs. Offshore Energy has reached out to Constellation, seeking further details about the deals but we are yet to receive a response.

According to Brazil’s Petróleo Hoje, the contracts for the Gold Star and Lone Star are for the duration of three years.

Amaralina Star is an ultra-deepwater DP drillship, which started its operations in September 2012. It is designed to drill in water depths of up to 10,000 feet and has a drilling depth capacity of up to 40,000 feet.

Both Gold Star and Lone Star are ultra-deepwater DP semi-submersible drilling rigs. Gold Star started its operations in February 2010. The rig is capable of drilling in water depths of up to 9,000 feet and has a drilling depth capacity of up to 30,000 feet.

Lone Star started its operations in April 2011 and it is capable of drilling in water depths of up to 7,900 feet and has a drilling depth capacity of up to 30,000 feet.

All three rigs are also equipped to operate in the pre-salt areas off Brazil.

The previous contracts for the two semi-subs were awarded to Constellation back in July 2019. The contracts, for two years each, were expected to begin by January 2020.
