Promising signs at Ungani well

Promising signs at Ungani well

Perth-based Buru Energy has encountered promising signs while drilling the Ungani West-1 exploration well in Western Australia.

As of Tuesday, the well was at a depth of 1710 metres and Buru was running wireline logs to confirm the significance of hydrocarbon indications seen so far in the well.

Buru noted that oil shows had been encountered in a number of individual sands over a 15-metre interval, at a depth of 1625 to 1640 metres, in the Reeves formation.

It added the shows were similar to those encountered in the Reeves section of the Ungani Far West-1 well which hit a five-metre oil bearing sand with an inferred 23-metre oil column.

Once the wireline programme is complete, Buru will resume drilling the well to the top of the Ungani Dolomite reservoir objective, with the well having a planned total depth of 2400 metres.

If successful, Buru intends to tie-back the well to the Ungani production facility about 1600 metres to the east using pre-ordered materials to provide for early production from the well.

Ungani West-1 lies in production licence 20 which Buru operates in a 50:50 partnership with Fosun International subsidiary Roc Oil.
