Quanta teams up with Bede Academy to inspire students and shape future careers

Leading oil and gas engineering practice, Quanta, is teaming up with Blyth’s Bede Academy to help inspire and shape the future careers of students.

Quanta’s Chief Commercial Officer, Steven Brett has been appointed as Enterprise Adviser for the North East Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and will work with Bede Academy to develop a strong careers support framework. The Enterprise Adviser Network is a national initiative of the Careers and Enterprise Company.

Steven will engage with students to increase their knowledge and understanding of the world of work, particularly around engineering and the global energy sector.

As well as raising awareness of the energy sector as a great future career with lots of opportunities, Steven Brett aims to inspire youngsters and help guide them towards the numerous STEM careers available in industry.

Steven joined Quanta in 2021. Based in Cramlington and with an office in Aberdeen, Quanta is a key North Sea supplier of engineering, procurement, and construction services (EPC) and works with some of the leading players in the energy sector, both on and offshore. The company is well known for its innovative approach to maximising production on ageing assets and is at the forefront of driving the UK’s energy security and paving the way for a transition to cleaner, greener power.

Steven will bring his own expertise and that of Quanta to help Bede Academy students work out the best career path after leaving school.
As well as supporting students, Steven has a very personal reason for choosing to become an Enterprise Adviser at Bede Academy. Both of his children attended the school and he is determined to show his appreciation and give something back to the Academy.

Craig Sams, Assistant Vice Principal from Bede Academy said: “We are very pleased to be able to work with Steven Brett from Quanta. Steven will be able to bring careers to life by talking about his own real-world experience and will help inspire and motivate our students. It is incredibly important for young people to understand what the world of work is really like and to identify where they feel they can fit in. With Steven’s help, we can showcase the numerous careers opportunities available across the global energy sector, particularly in the science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) disciplines, and advise and guide our students on the best options for them.”

Chief Commercial Officer at Quanta, Steven Brett said: “Bede Academy is extremely close to my heart as both my children are pupils there and are enjoying their time at the academy. I want to help the Academy put a strong careers framework in place to help current and future students take the right leap into work.

“It’s important to get the message out to youngsters that the global energy sector offers lots of rewarding and exciting career paths. Skills shortages have been widely reported as a major challenge facing the energy industry moving forward, so it’s great to be able to help at the sharp-end in terms of inspiring and motivating the next generation of talent to help the sector in the future.”

Michelle Rainbow, Skills Director at the North East LEP said: “It is now even more important than ever that young people have exposure to the world of work. The Enterprise Adviser network aims to bridge the gap between education and business, and we are delighted that Steven has agreed to volunteer his time to inspire the next generation in Blyth.”
