seall touch screen digital navigation

Aberdeen headquartered technology companies, Jargoon and Intellicore in partnership have created a bespoke software solution in the ECDIS marketplace, which is already revolutionising the way vessels, boats and superyachts are navigated. The Seall Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS), which is now operating world-wide, has all the functionalities and capabilities of a compliant ECDIS but offers even more benefits to the end user.  The companies understanding of technology and expertise in software development has allowed them to design an enhanced system that is intuitive as well as functional, to provide better results at an affordable price, whilst being simpler than ever to use. By working closely with captains, they have ensured the system is fit for purpose and would ease the transition from paper to digital navigation. The product’s enhanced features, including one of the first touch screen interfaces for ECDIS, exceeds compliance standards and simplifies the complex task of planning and navigating a vessel’s journey, improving on efficiency and therefore safety.  Speed is another key benefit of the Seall ECDIS system. It has powerful processing capabilities and an innovative new caching system, enabling ENC’s to be loaded and displayed faster. The increased speed of the system allows the crew to work more efficiently on planned tasks but also empowers them to respond quicker in reactive situations during a voyage.  Installation and set- up is a fast and simple process. The system automatically detects any sensors that it is connected to, including motion, positioning and heading devices, AIS and ARPA and automatically sets up monitoring functions. What’s more, the system can be installed and set up while docked or at sea, providing more flexibility.   Safety is paramount when it comes to a product like this and the Seall ECDIS is completely type approved and compliant to the official ENC standards. Furthermore, Seall are one of very few companies to provide a design that meets the IEC 61174 Edition 4.0 standard (2015). To ensure users are competent and meet the high safety standards associated with the tool, Seall ECDIS is accompanied by a computer-based training application which can run on iOS, Android, Windows or Mac environments. Barry Booth, Commercial Director said: “Seall ECDIS was born from a desire to improve the quality of ECDIS systems in use whilst introducing touchscreen technology into this field.  As one of few global manufacturers with our own ENC Kernel we have been overwhelmed with the interest in it, and currently have released over 10,000 licenses for use in 3rd party applications.  Our own Seall ECDIS product utilising the same technology is starting to get the traction it deserves, and we look forward to releasing further innovative products in the near future.  We are very keen to build partnerships with companies who would like to add a touchscreen ECDIS to their product offering.” Seall have also created additional software such as the ‘Passage Planner’, designed to allow mariners to plan routes with ease. It can work in combination with Seall ECDIS or other ECDIS solutions to aid the crew in keeping their digital ENC up to date and planning their voyage effectively. In addition to the captain, the passage planner can be accessed by logistics personnel who can define the journey from the office. It allows Digital ENC updates to be received on the back of bridge which can be easily transferred to Seall ECDIS.   As the company continues to grow, they plan to penetrate more of the marine market with their highly innovative products which has potential not only within commercial vessels but also work boats and super yachts. Looking ahead, Seall ECDIS Ltd are continuing to build lasting relationships with operators, agents, distributors and partners to increase the number of digital navigation systems in use.
