SETS fundraiser in support of mental health

SETS fundraiser in support of mental health

In Scotland around one in every three people  are estimated to be affected by mental health issues in any one year. It affects not only the person with the condition but the family and support network around them.

Suicide rates in Scotland rose by 15% between 2017 & 2018.

The rate of young people aged 15-24 taking their own lives is 15 in every 100,000.

Evidence suggests that 12.7% of all sickness absence days in the UK can be attributed to mental health conditions.

These statistics are shocking but they demonstrate how mental health issues can affect us all in one way or another.  It is a subject that is close to the heart of SETS as it has directly affected our colleagues and friends.

Although the subject of mental well-being is no longer a taboo subject and we are being encouraged to talk about it, many organisations who offer support still rely heavily on donations from the public to survive.

SETS in conjunction with Waterloo Quay Properties and 210 Bistro Caboose are holding a fundraising event on Thursday 3rd October with all monies being raised in support of Man Chat Aberdeen, and Mental Health Aberdeen.

Between 11.30-1.30 there will be an “instant raffle" to be held in 210 Bistro Caboose. Tickets will be £1 each, so please bring along your pennies on the day.  This will be followed by a drop in session in the Mezzanine of Provender House between 1.45-3.15 with guest speakers giving information on topics affecting mental health:-

  • Mental Health Aberdeen - Charity providing Adult and Youth Counselling & Support
  • Dawn Walton - Cognitive Hypnotherapist and Renowned author
  • Brett Townsley of Omniscient Safety Innovations - Provider of First Aid in Mental Health Courses
  • Wendy Fleming of the Charity - Ditch Debt with Dignity - Debt can be both a cause and symptom of mental health issues - Wendy will be around until 4pm for anyone wishing to have a 1 to 1 session
  • Wray Thomson of the Community Project - Man Chat Aberdeen - A group for men struggling with mental health or feelings of suicide

Are you isolating yourself due to feeling low and unable to communicate?

Do you feel overwhelmed or unable to cope with the pressures of everyday life?

Do you feel like you are sometimes unable to manage your thoughts or feelings?

If the answer to any of the above 3 statements is yes or sometimes for yourself or someone you know, you may benefit from hearing what our Guest speakers have to say.

We are asking for your help to make this event a success.  If you wish to donate a prize for the instant raffle these can be dropped off at Provender House reception, or directly to SETS. These can be in the form of vouchers, bottles, gift sets, basically anything you’d love to win. Any company wishing to make a corporate donation can contact Debbie Conway or Jade Kerr @ SETS on 01224 465210 or via Anna Eardley @ Waterloo Quay Properties on 01224 565000.
