SLB Secures Carbon Storage Contract for UK’s Northern Endurance Partnership Project

SLB, a global leader in energy technology, has been awarded a key contract to support carbon storage site development in the North Sea by the Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP). This joint venture, formed by bp, Equinor, and Total Energies, is working on building both onshore and offshore infrastructure to capture and transport CO2 from industrial carbon capture projects in Teesside and Humber, part of the East Coast Cluster, for secure storage under the North Sea.

As part of the contract, SLB will utilize its Sequestri™ carbon storage technology portfolio, deploying advanced solutions specifically designed for the construction and management of carbon storage sites. The company will be responsible for drilling, cementing, measurement, wireline services, and other associated tasks for six carbon storage wells.

Katherine Rojas, Senior Vice President of Industrial Decarbonization at SLB, highlighted the importance of tailored technologies for carbon storage, noting their vital role in both improving the economics and ensuring the integrity of carbon storage projects. “We’re thrilled to be part of this pioneering CCS project in the UK, bringing our expertise and advanced Sequestri solutions to deliver this complex project,” she stated.

The NEP’s infrastructure is essential for the UK’s decarbonization goals, particularly in its most carbon-intensive industrial regions. The project will utilize the Endurance saline aquifer and other nearby storage sites, which have the capacity to store up to 1 billion metric tons of CO2. Once operational in 2028, the infrastructure will be capable of permanently storing up to 4 million metric tons of CO2 annually.

SLB is a global technology leader focused on driving energy innovation. Operating in over 100 countries and employing people from nearly every corner of the globe, SLB is committed to advancing oil and gas technology, decarbonizing industries, and developing new energy systems that help accelerate the global transition to sustainable energy.
