South Africa - A decade of training and assessment

SAFER Training (Scotland) Ltd and their South African partners, Offshore Africa Training Centre (OATC) will celebrate their ten year anniversary in 2024.

OATC / SAFER Training, where the first OPITO training centre in South Africa and have successfully been delivering OPITO-accredited training – since 2014 initially covering key topics such as rigging, lifting, banksman and slinging duties, and Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations.

The addition of their recently approved OPITO survival courses (BOSIET / FOET, HUET CA-EBS, Digital BOSIET and Travel Safely by Boat Initial and Further - TSbB) courses will enhance and help to service a wide range of industries involved in the Energy Sector.

With a range of well-appointed theoretical and practical learning areas providing learners with a conducive learning environment in which to receive training, assessment or re-assessment conveniently located, only a few minutes away from Cape Town’s international airport, makes it an ideal hub for both local and international industry participants to launch their careers, or to maintain their skills as required.

South African government has emphasised the importance of accelerating the energy transition as an element in economic stability and energy self-sufficiency.

“The need for skills and expertise in the Energy Sector has never been more pressing in South Africa and this growth will see demand for internationally approved Energy Sector workforce increase; especially for professionals who are trained according to the most rigorous safety standards,” says OATC CEO, Gary Concar.
