Spirit Energy has boosted production from two of its UK North Sea fields following the start-up of new wells.
First gas flowed earlier this month from the C6 well at the Chiswick field, 75 mi (121 km) from the Norfolk coast in the southern North Sea, adding 15 MMcf/d to the field’s overall output. Drilling operations were completed two months ahead of schedule.
The development well also lifts overall production from the Greater Markham Area (GMA) to 110 MMcf/d, helping to extend life of the GMA hub to Spirit’s target of 2028.
And in partnership with Dana Petroleum, the company has drilled and brought onstream a new oil production well at the Chestnut field in the UK central North Sea, extending the life of that field by up to three further years.
This was a £56-million ($68-million) investment, designed to access a further 2.5 MMbbl, also involving a contract extension with Teekay Corp. for the FPSO Hummingbird Spirit.
Neil McCulloch, executive vice president Technical & Operated Assets at Spirit, said: “The results from the new well at Chiswick exceeded our expectations and will provide us with valuable data to identify further drilling targets in the area.”
He paid tribute to Teekay and Altera Infrastructure for their parts in the new project.
“The industry faces unprecedented challenges but, taken together, the additional gas and oil from Chiswick and Chestnut provide a boost to production from two UK fields at a time when the secure supply of energy is critical.”
