Offshore Energies UK (OEUK) has introduced a 124kg clothed weight limit for offshore personnel, effective from 1st November 2026, as part of an effort to manage the growing risks associated with increasing worker bodyweight. This decision follows extensive analysis, including emergency response constraints, particularly regarding search and rescue helicopter winch limits, which are restricted beyond a 124.7kg payload.
This policy links clothed weight to OEUK medical certification. Workers exceeding the limit will not be issued an OEUK medical certificate. Those within certain thresholds (115–124kg) will receive time-limited medical certificates to encourage weight loss. Further to that, there will be a hard stop at the heliport for anyone attempting to check-in for a flight that is above the weight limit.
At Integrity HSE Medical Clinic, Dr Julie Hunt and her team understand the concern that this policy may bring to employers and employees, and are committed to supporting industry partners’ implementation in a positive and person-focused way. Their approach places the health and wellbeing of the individual at the centre, and they invite you to contact us to explore how we can assist your organisation in managing this policy change.
