Three Scottish Oil Workers Test Positive for Brazilian Variant

Jason Leitch says three Scots who tested positive for Brazil variant work for an oil company, according to reports

Three people who recently tested positive for the Brazil variant in Scotland work for an oil company, the country’s national clinical director has reportedly said.

It is understood the small group of people were working offshore in the South American country before flying home to family in Aberdeen.

He told BBC Nine that the situation was “well handled” by the three individuals, their families and their employer.

When questioned over concerns about the north east becoming a gateway to new variants with its high population of workers in the oil industry Mr Leitch said: “It’s certainly a part of the country we want to be careful about.”

It is understood the flight the three oil workers were on went via Paris and London before landing in Aberdeen and passengers who were on the same British Airways flight from London are now being contacted.
