Planning permission for the Wressle onshore oil development, granted in September 2024, has been rescinded due to procedural omissions by North Lincolnshire Council (NLC).
Council officials did not consider the Scope 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions tied to the project, a requirement under the Finch Supreme Court ruling made in June.
The decision came after the council’s original environmental impact assessment screening decision in July last year, which overlooked potential GHG emissions.
Egdon Resources, the project operator, is set to provide an independent assessment of the Scope 3 emissions to NLC and request a new EIA screening opinion.
Following the council’s response, Wressle’s planning application will be re-evaluated based on either existing submissions or, if necessary, with a full environmental statement.
In separate statements, Union Jack Oil PLC and Europa Oil & Gas (Holdings) Plc, respectively 40% and 30% stakeholders in Wressle, emphasised that current production operations remain unaffected by the planning decision.
