Vår Energi acquires two supply vessels for its North Sea operations

Norwegian oil and gas company Vår Energi has acquired two supply vessels for deployment in the North Sea.

The clean vessels will contribute to the company’s sustainability strategy to reduce its environmental footprint.

Both the vessels, ‘Olympic Energy’ and ‘Troms Sirius’, will operate between North Sea’s Balder field and Dusavik quay outside Stavanger.

The Troms Sirius vessel will commence work later this month, while Olympic Energy will start service in February.

Vår Energi operations support manager Eivind Espe said: “We are constantly working to reduce our footprint, so we were extra happy when Olympic Energy became available.

“The supply vessel is one of the cleanest vessels in operation on the shelf and helps us move closer to a more environmentally friendly oil and gas production in the North Sea.”

Olympic Energy runs on LNG and is equipped with a battery pack of 460kWh. It can connect to shore power and charge the battery during quay stays.

Meanwhile, the Troms Sirius vessel uses traditional fuel. However, it will be upgraded to get connected to shore power when the ship is at the quay.

In a press statement, Vår Energi stated: “All vessels are equipped with technology that helps Vår Energi closer to the goal of a more environmentally friendly oil and gas production.”

Vår Energi is the result of the merger of Point Resources and Eni Norge in 2018. It is jointly owned by Eni (69.6%) and Norway based private equity investor HitecVision (30.4%).

In August last year, Vår Energi completed the sale of 10% ownership interests in six North Sea licenses to Mime Petroleum.
