Well Academy delivers first IWCF Quality Assured course

Well Academy has become the first organisation to develop and deliver an IWCF Quality Assured course, following the launch of the initiative at the International Well Control Forum’s (IWCF) annual well control workshop and AGM, held in Istanbul on 19th & 20th November.

The IWCF Quality Assured training framework provides an independent way to review and recognise the effectiveness of training that falls outside IWCF’s core accreditation. It encourages an outcome-based approach and offers assurance for four categories, including specialist topics, operational embedded training, specialist equipment and continuous learning mechanisms.

Well Academy’s Quality Assured endorsed Stuck Pipe Prevention and Recovery course is the first programme to be endorsed under the framework. The three-day specialist course offers a practical understanding of how stuck pipe events can occur and how prevention measures can be incorporated into well design and day-to-day operations. Participants explore detection methods, mitigation strategies and recovery techniques.

The first IWCF Quality Assured Stuck Pipe Prevention and Recovery course was delivered successfully at Well Academy’s training centre in Apeldoorn, The Netherlands, in early December, reflecting industry interest in structured, specialist training options. The inaugural course received positive feedback from training delegates.

Well Academy Training Director Jan Willem Flamma said: “We are naturally delighted to be the first provider to achieve IWCF Quality Assured status. Working closely with IWCF to develop this course reflects our shared commitment to supporting high-quality training and strengthening competency across the well operations sector. This recognition supports the quality and relevance of our programmes and the value they bring to the industry.”

IWCF CEO Zdenek Sehnal added: “We congratulate Well Academy on being the first to develop and deliver an IWCF Quality Assured course. Initiatives like this play a vital role in raising the standards of well control training and ensuring the industry continues to develop the skills and competencies it needs. We are grateful for Well Academy’s support and their dedication to excellence and integrity in training.”

Well Academy will run further Quality Assured Stuck Pipe Prevention & Recovery courses in 2026.
