Winner of the 2019 Achievement Awards Trophy Unveiled
With the 2019 Offshore Achievement Awards award nominations closing in a little over three weeks, the students from Gray’s School of Art revealed their designs for this year’s coveted winners’ trophies.
The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Aberdeen Section and Robert Gordon University have again collaborated to organise a competition for the art students to design the Awards trophies.
Since the start of the academic year in September, a group of third year Three-Dimensional Design students has been busy researching and developing their ideas and their final concepts were reviewed by the judges on Thursday. Each year, the creativity and standard of the awards has risen and this year is no exception. The panel of nine judges deliberated for nearly an hour before finally deciding on the winning design, created by Laurencekirk-based Finlay Rintoul.
Ian Phillips, SPE Aberdeen Chairman, announced the winner and stated that: “This year we have seen the highest standard of designs ever. We have never spent so long trying to choose between some really impressive designs. We hope all the designers recognise how close the competition was.
They were all worthy winners, but in the end, Finlay had the overall vote of the judges by the narrowest of margins.”
Principal sponsor and long-standing supporter of the OAAs is TAQA. Siân Mutch, Senior Corporate Communications Advisor at TAQA, said: “We are invested in making links between industry and education and the award design competition provides the chance to develop and celebrate that. The competition offers design students an opportunity to engage with the energy sector, which may not otherwise arise.
“The designs were all so different and you could tell they had put in a lot of time into researching and understanding the oil and gas and renewable industries, in order to create their pieces. We are very impressed with the work put in by them this year.”
Entries to the Offshore Achievement Awards are open until Friday 16 November.
The black-tie ceremony will take place at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre on Thursday 14 March, 2019. Submissions are welcome from UK-based companies operating offshore in both the oil and gas and renewables sectors. For further information and entry criteria, please visit www.spe-oaa.org.
