Wood sees strong Iraq demand as Middle East awards jump nearly 20%

Wood Plc

UK-based engineering consultancy Wood reported that it achieved a near 20% increase in awarded contracts in contrast to 2024, fueled by rising operations in Iraq and across the wider Middle East.

Among the most recent contracts, Wood was awarded project management and engineering services for PetroChina at the West Qurna 1 oilfield, one of Iraq’s major producing assets. The work supports continuing development and operational activities in the field, which is critical to Iraq’s oil production.

Wood has obtained a number of contracts in Iraq related to decarbonisation, including flare gas reduction and carbon efficiency solutions for some of the country’s major oil fields.

Iraq is attempting to reduce gas flaring and enhance energy efficiency as part of larger changes to its oil and gas sectors.

Outside of Iraq, Wood was granted an engineering, procurement, and construction management contract to expand the ADNOC Gas Habshan complex in the UAE. The biggest project granted to Wood this year comprises extensive enhancements, operating efficiency improvements, brownfield modifications, and new processing facilities.

The increase in contracts demonstrates Iraq’s rising relevance in Wood’s regional portfolio, as multinational service providers extend work on the country’s oil, gas, and emissions reduction projects.
