YEAR-LONG SUPPORT FOR MS CHARITY TAKES OFF AT BRISTOW

Bristow Helicopters Ltd is propelling fundraising efforts for the Grampian MS Therapy Centre, after committing to support the charity throughout 2019.

The centre based in Dyce, Aberdeen, provides vital support and treatment for more than 100 people living with multiple sclerosis, including oxygen therapy, specialised physiotherapy and reflexology.

Multiple sclerosis can affect the brain and/or spinal cord, causing a wide range of potential symptoms, including problems with vision, arm or leg movement, sensation or balance.

Bristow began working with the centre in 2018, and recently donated four new chairs to allow the organisation to open a new oxygen room. The additional space has doubled the number of people who can receive treatment at one time and provided greater comfort for those using the facility.

The company’s Aberdeen team has already raised more than £1,000 through a Christmas jumper day in December, and the donation of a flight simulation experience to Alford’s Rotary Club raffle.

Grampian MS Therapy Centre manager, Eileen Matthew, said: “Our current oxygen chamber can be used by up to five people but some users find the experience claustrophobic. Bristow’s donation enabled us to open a new oxygen room which is a larger, open space.

“As an organisation we rely solely on volunteers and donations to keep our centre running and we’re grateful to receive Bristow’s support as we hope to continue expanding our services.”

Bristow Uplift, an internal programme which sees the business partner with local communities, charities and non-profit organisations to support social responsibility initiatives, is coordinating the company’s ongoing fundraising efforts for the charity.

Matt Rhodes, director UK & Turkmenistan oil and gas at Bristow Helicopters Ltd, said: “Members of our team visited the MS Therapy Centre last year and were struck by the generosity of the volunteers who run the facility to ensure those in need receive this life-changing therapy.

“As a business we collectively felt a strong need to offer support. We’re proud to have already made a positive impact and we look forward to working closely with the charity in the coming months.”
