All Energy 2025 – Shepherd + Wedderburn
Great insights shared by Colin Innes, Partner at Shepherd and Wedderburn, on day two of a bustling All-Energy Glasgow! 🗣️ Following a very busy first day with strong engagement, Colin highlighted the positive turnout and enthusiasm within the clean energy sector.
As headline sponsors, Shepherd and Wedderburn, a UK law firm with a strong Scottish heritage, have been deeply embedded in the energy sector for decades, with a significant focus on clean energy over the past 20 years. Their commitment was evident in their prominent involvement in the plenary sessions.
Colin chaired a crucial session on offshore wind, acknowledging the sector’s recent global turbulence with project delays and cancellations due to a “perfect storm” of economic challenges (interest rates, inflation, supply chain). However, he sees a positive shift on the horizon as interest rates potentially reduce.
The focus now is on ensuring the success of the next UK offshore wind auction round. Following government consultations, the industry urgently needs certainty and a clear, stable framework to drive investment. While there’s been a feeling of “jam tomorrow,” the ambition remains high, especially with the new UK government doubling down on offshore wind targets for 2030.
All eyes are on the upcoming Auction Round 7 (AR7). While enthusiasm is high and the industry needs a successful round to build confidence, Colin emphasized the importance of early supply chain engagement and addressing potential uncertainties created by new auction rules. Despite this, he’s confident that AR7 will be bigger and better than the previous round, laying a strong foundation for future offshore wind deployment
