Fed-up man jumps out Range Rover and drags Just Stop Oil blockade off road

A man jumped out of a Range Rover to drag slow walking Just Stop Oil protesters off a major London road.

Wearing orange high-res vests and holding signs reading ‘Climate Inaction Kills!’, some 200 campaigners are staging 14 slow-march protests across London today.

This ‘escalation of resistance’, Just Stop Oil says, comes as it seeks to stop oil and gas extraction in Britain.

As Just Stop Oil supporters spilt onto Marylebone Road by Westminster earlier today, one passenger stepped out of a white Range Rover to confront them.

Video footage shows the man grabbing onto the campaigners’ vests and tugging at their arms before yanking one off towards the pavement.

‘Are you trying to wind me up?’ the man can be heard shouting before stepping back out from the passenger seat to waggle his finger at another protester.

‘I’m going to tell you one last time,’ he says, before pushing them to the side and spinning another person around by the arm.

As the protester runs forward, the passenger was filmed beelining back towards him to grab his sign but narrowly missed.

More footage from the scene posted by Just Stop Oil showed the passenger telling campaigners to ‘go away’. He then pushes them and whacks a person’s mobile phone out of their hands.

Earlier in the same video, another man grabbed and tore a Just Stop Oil banner in half in an act of ‘aggression’, the group said.

The Metropolitan Police say officers have so far arrested 21 Just Stop Oil supporters ‘for breach of Section 12 conditions to move off the carriageway from various locations of protest’.

Section 12 of the Public Order Act allows senior police officers to impose restrictions on protests that, they feel, may lead to ‘serious public disorder’ on highways.

The force says that demonstrations have popped up across major thoroughfares including at Westminster, Victoria, Paddington, Liverpool Street, Whitechapel and Wandsworth, among others.

Most protesters ‘immediately complied’ with the orders, the Met added, and moved off the roads bringing traffic flow back to normal.

The Met, Just Stop Oil said in a tweet, ‘have been removing Just Stop Oil supporters from the roads… only for the marches to appear in new location’.

‘We will not stand by while everything we know and love is destroyed.’In response to one arrest, Just Stop Oil added: ‘Fifteen minutes of disruption is nothing compared to the disruption of societal collapse that will occur if our government continues issuing new fossil fuel licences.’
