JSE-listed energy and chemicals company Sasol has appointed Rhidwaan Gasant as an independent nonexecutive director with effect from February 1.
He satisfies the independence requirements for directors under applicable requirements in South Africa and the US, the company notes.
Gasant is a chartered accountant and served as audit, tax and advisory services firm KPMG senior audit manager before joining industrial oils and lubricants company Mobil Oil Southern Africa. He has also served as petroleum products company Engen FD and oil and gas exploration company Energy Africa CEO.
Gasant has extensive board-level experience, including recently serving as lead independent director at gold miner AngloGold Ashanti and as audit committee chairperson at mobile network operator MTN Nigeria.
He currently serves as chairperson of real estate investment trust Growthpoint Properties.
Further, Gasant has been involved in various corporate actions in South Africa and internationally, and brings more than three decades of financial, governance and corporate experience to the Sasol board of directors, the company says.
“We are pleased to welcome Rhidwaan to the Sasol board. His extensive financial, governance and energy sector experience will further strengthen the board’s oversight and strategic guidance as Sasol continues to deliver on its commitments to shareholders and other stakeholders,” says Sasol chairperson Muriel Dube.
