ScotAI Launched to Transform Industrial Productivity, Secures Microsoft Alliance

“Last time you bought something, did you read the manual or just turn it on and give it a go?”.  This is the question posed by ScotAI Co-Founder Moray Melhuish.  And the answer of course won’t come as a surprise.

The vast majority of people don’t.  On one hand, manuals tend to be boring, hard to understand, and counterintuitive, and on the other hand people are lazy and have a high opinion of their own competence - with negative impacts on safety, productivity and cost as a result.

The first product launched by ScotAI is https://mAInt.world, which aims to get people to want to read the manual, by making the necessary information intuitive, interesting and instantly accessible.

Melhuish continued “mAInt started as just a PDF reader with a chat function, but we swiftly realised that the system could add so much more value than that, and we have also launched client-embedded, enterprise and self-hosted options”.  Already the business has secured substantial launch customers for its system – including a major player in the international valve industry, and a Stock Exchange listed offshore technology provider.

Perhaps it’s not a surprise that the business is making inroads in these sectors.  Melhuish began his career in the valve industry, before entering the ROV, subsea and IoT industries.  He is also the host of the OGV Energy ‘Let’s Talk Transition’ podcast.

Kicking off the business with Melhuish is Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer Nick Thomas.  Nick Thomas boasts a stellar background with a first-class honours degree in engineering and an international career which has seen him innovate within global industrial giants like Tata, Toyota, GE, and Baker Hughes.

At the heart of ScotAI's mission lies its ground-breaking technology, mAInt.  “We recognised that businesses were seeing advent of AI as a threat or a weakness, wary of what happens to data and how privacy is secured – and so we decided to address that” says Thomas, “effectively making AI both a strength and an opportunity for mAInt users”.

Using the system, the user uploads any PDF document and can instantly quiz it to get the information they need.  Operation and Maintenance manuals can be uploaded, making the content intuitive.  Sales Engineers can instantly respond with confidence to client technical queries, operations staff can ask questions and receive responses safe in the knowledge that they are adopting best practice and employees can ask questions of their internal management system rather than take up management time.
But how do we know it’s secure?  Thomas continues “AI has gained a bad name in many respects – it’s infamous for ‘hallucinating’ or making up responses.  mAInt doesn’t do that, it is trained only on the document uploaded.  It is also data secure and private, and can also be run on our clients cloud infrastructure”.

It’s not just ScotAI and it’s launch clients who see the value of the system – industry leviathan Microsoft has awarded the AI innovators up to $150,000 USD of software, services and mentoring through it’s Founders Hub initiative, which seeks to support and accelerate innovation.

In addition to it’s successful Enterprise offering, ScotAI has unveiled its business to consumer (B2C) offering, at https://mAInt.world. Here, visitors can upload PDF documents and ask them anything, to try out the system for themselves.

Headquartered in Linlithgow near Edinburgh, ScotAI recently announced an addition to the senior team, Intellectual Property Director Ruth Patterson who is responsible for protecting the innovations created by the business.
