Transocean secures contracts worth $184m for two rigs

The Encourage rig received a seven-well contract extension, while the Enabler utilised two additional one-well options.

Transocean has secured contract fixtures for its Encourage and Enabler rigs in Norway, amassing a firm backlog of approximately $184m (SFr141.4m).

The Encourage rig received a contract extension covering seven wells.

This extension is projected to provide around 365 days of work and will commence in the first quarter of 2027, continuing seamlessly from its current programme.

The contract is expected to add around $152m to the company’s backlog, not including additional services.

The Encourage is a semisubmersible rig designed under the GVA 4000 NCS model and constructed at the Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) shipyard.

Entering service in 2016, it has undergone significant upgrades. Classified by DNV GL as a +1A1 column stabilised drilling unit (N), the rig operates under the Norwegian flag.

Its main deck measures 380.5ft in length and 318.2ft in width, with the capacity to accommodate up to 130 personnel.

The rig is capable of operating in water depths of up to 500m and can drill to a maximum depth of 8,500m.

Additionally, for the Enabler rig, two one-well options have been utilised.

These extensions will add 70 days of work, contributing roughly $32m to the backlog and extending the rig’s commitments until December 2027.

Constructed by DSME, the Enabler is a semi-submersible rig designed for harsh environments and entered service in 2016.

It has the capability to operate in water depths of up to 500m and can drill to maximum depths of 8,500m.

Classified as a DNV GL + 1A1 column stabilised drilling unit, the rig measures approximately 116m in length and 97m in width, with the capacity to accommodate 130 personnel.

It is equipped with six Wartsila 12V32E engines connected to Siemens AC generators, generating a total power output of 37.8MW, and can achieve speeds of up to seven knots.

Transocean provides offshore contract drilling services for oil and gas wells globally. The company focuses on ultra-deep-water and harsh environment drilling services.

It operates a fleet of 27 mobile offshore drilling units including 20 ultra-deep-water floaters and seven harsh environment rigs.

Recently, Transocean signed a definitive agreement to purchase Valaris through an all-stock transaction valued at around $5.8bn.
